STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
Dear Bear Den Students,
Please read this important information about your participation at Drew's semi-annual Bear Den.
What to expect at Bear Den:
- Bear Den presentations will take place in Brothers College classrooms
- Timing:
- Arrive at 6 pm for registration with your student ID to swipe in and get your name tag; the classroom(s) where you will be presenting will be printed on your name tag
- Presentations start at 6:30 and are scheduled to end by 8:00 pm. A couple of longer panels may begin earlier than 6:30; if so, your professor will be notified ahead of time.
- You will be emailed the final Bear Den schedule on the morning of 5/2. Students presenting twice will have at least 20 minutes to get from one presentation to the next
- BC lounge will be used for the networking reception after the presentations from 8 - 9 pm. Your attendance at the networking event is required. After all of the presentations have been completed in your classroom, students will move to the lounge for the networking portion of the evening; food and beverages will be provided.
- If you have accessibility issues and need to be on the first floor, or have any other questions, please email Katey DePinto.
How to turn in/submit your presentation:
- Jenna Corraro will post Google Classroom instructions on how to submit your presentation. Only one student per presentation group is required to submit. All presentations must be finalized in Google Slides and submitted by Thursday, 5/1 at 11:59 pm.
- Before presenting, you must review your presentation in an incognito/private browser to ensure that any videos or external links you include in your Google Slides will work. Alternatively, you can share your presentation with someone else and have them test the embedded links and videos.
- If you need to make any changes to your presentation after you turn it in, “Unsubmit” it, make your changes, then resubmit.
- If you used Canva or another presentation format, please submit the link to your assignment on Google Classroom. Please check viewing permissions in Canva, etc. to make sure it’s viewable by all.
- After submitting to Google Classroom, review your presentation in an incognito/private browser again.
- If you do not complete the above steps and your presentation doesn’t work at Bear Den, you must present at a makeup session at a later date.
- If you have any questions or issues, email [email protected]
What is expected from students:
- Dress professionally. If you don’t own business attire, Drew’s Career Closet at Sycamore Cottage provides one professional outfit per year, yours to keep. Click here to make an appointment; choose your major (or “undecided”), then click on “Career Closet”.
- Engage with other students’ presentations. You are not permitted to leave or look at your phone during other presentations, which can be disruptive and rude to others. Breaks are provided between presentations if you need to use the restroom or use your phone
- Prepare physical presentation notes on paper or notecards. Do not prepare presentation notes on your phone, computer, or other device.
- Bring your reusable water bottle. Students should avoid going to the lobby until all of the presentations are completed.
- Attendance at the networking event (8 - 9 pm) is mandatory. Networking is the best way to find internships and make valuable contacts for future jobs. Panelists in the past have offered internships to students on the spot during the networking portion of the evening.
- Review panelist bios beforehand and try to meet professionals in the fields you are interested in. You can even connect with them on LinkedIn before Bear Den.
- Most importantly, have fun! Students feel tremendous accomplishment (and relief) after all of their hard work. You will be one step closer to your goals!
If you are running late, get lost or have any issues whatsoever, please call or text Katey DePinto at 973-219-6980.
